a lesson on convection

We have the best home teachers. After each lesson, they bring a science experiment. This week, we learned about convection.

Con-vec-tion: the transfer of heat by the circulation

 or movement of the heated parts of a liquid or gas

Step 1: empty a tea bag, cut off the ends and make a cylinder. Place (preferably) on a non-flammable surface

 Step 2: light the top of the tea bag

 Step 3: watch as the tea bag dissolves into a fiery mass and begins to float

Step 4: cheer the cinders on as they float towards the ceiling
