FHE & Dando Amor

It started out with this:
bags and bags of donated shoes that needed to be picked up in Utah
Then FHE started, and we did this:
Lander, Jake and Josh sorting the bags of shoes
And then a few weeks later, we did it again!

We sorted what felt like thousands of pairs of shoes tonight for FHE. The shoes are going to the orphanages in Ecuador and Africa with the help of the charity, Dondo Amor. The really old, cruddy shoes are going to Haiti where people will pay a small fee to buy the shoes in bulk. They will then fix them up, sell them and earn income to help their families.

We nearly filled this entire trailer with shoes to go to Haiti!

work trip to Chicago

Dixie was able to attend a nursing conference in Chicago and in her off hours, she was able to play and spend time with Grandma Nala, Grandpa Farnsworth and Alan and Heather's family. Here are some highlights:

view from room in the Chicago Hilton
Dixie attempting to out perform Tina. She was almost as good....almost
(we saw this Tina last October at the same corner)
Embarrassing Heather at her Texas Roadhouse birthday dinner,
along with the cupcakes that we almost stole. That little kid didn't need them anyway!
 Panorama of Chicago cityscape
Enjoying the rainy and windy harbor cruise on Lake Michigan
Embracing our inner nerdy at Museum of Science and Industry.
They had some some really cool stuff! The German U-505 submarine was the favorite! Well, that, and the giant human-sized hamster wheel. And the astronaut exhibit. And the....I think you get the point.
Perusing literature for the boys was uplifting
And the local art was equally edifying/horrifying/not that great, but the food was always good.

Note to self:
Picasso was a freak. Georgia O'Keefe was only cool because she painted scenes in New Mexico. American Gothic rocks as well as the ancient Roman exhibits and Asian exhibits. I need a circa 1025 German Bible. Despite what others say, raw oysters are really good. And surprisingly, the 17th century Dutch art was nostalgic!
