Moab River Rafting Campout

Here are a few shots from our river rafting "adventure" with Jarrod & Shelly. Probably the most adventurous part was when Shelly got a kidney stone & had to cross the river in the dark & then hike out so she could go to the hospital.  They missed out on the "swimming of the rapids" the next morning,  not nearly as crazy as running with the bulls, but still a ton of fun.

Lander's new toy

Lamar, Melanie & troop stopped by for a visit. We went to dinner at Big Judd's & then the youngsters went to see the last Harry Potter while Grandma & Grandpa babysat the grand kids. What an AWESOME surprise (even if the hamburgers were sub-par...so sorry)!!

Webelos & Arrow of Light

The highest rank in Cub Scouting is the Arrow of Light Award. This is the only Cub Scout award that can be worn on the Boy Scout uniform. Here is Jake receiving his symbolic Arrow of Light award after receiving his Webelos rank:

The Arrow of Light represents 7 virtues:

1. WISDOM - Wisdom does not necessarily mean superior knowledge. It means putting the knowledge that one possesses to the right use.
2. COURAGE - Courage is not the quality that enables met to meet danger without fear. It is being able to meet danger in spite of one's fear.
3. SELF-CONTROL - Self-control isn't limited tot he control of one's temper, but control of one's self in all things.
4. JUSTICE - Justice is the practice of dealing fairly with others without prejudice.
5. FAITH - Faith is the conviction that something unproven by physical evidence is true.
6. HOPE - Hope means to expect with confidence. Always hope for better things to come.
7. LOVE - There are many kinds of love; love of family, love of home, love of fellowman, love of God, love of country. All of these loves are necessary for a full life.

Time to get rid of the burn pile, so we decided to put it to good use cooking our dinner.

Quake Lake

We took the boys on a day trip to Montana. Our first stop was Quake Lake. Quake Lake was created after a massive earthquake in 1959 that killed 27 people when an entire mountain slid into a canyon, covering a popular campsite. The slide dammed the Madison River and formed the eerie lake.  Here are some pictures of the place:

I was cold & Jake was "burning up" so I borrowed his jacket.

These pictures were taken at Boot Hill Cemetery. It is the resting place for 5 people hanged by vigilantes during Virginia City's wild gold rush days.

Arcade

The second, and main reason for the day trip was to go to Virginia City, Montana. It is an old ghost town a few hours away. One of our favorite things was playing in an antique arcade. The games cost between $0.01-$.25. Most cost a nickel. It was a lot of fun.

4th of July

We celebrated the 4th of July in Driggs by attending the festivities at Huntsman Springs.
